Maria Luiza Ballarotti

is an architect and visiting researcher, supported by the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship. She studied architecture and urbanism at the Federal University of Paraná, in Brazil, and got her master’s degree in urban planning at the same institution. Her research centres on how urbanisation processes affect our relationship with food, and what spatial planners can learn from food sovereignty movements to design healthier and more equitable food systems.
