Towards an Archeology of the Future
Nadina Dollie and Anton Krebs
A Tourist on Brijuni expected to see intact monuments but found ruins instead. This sets the stage for a reflection on how remnants of the past, are essential for imagining possible futures. Within the observation that life as well as death are present within ruins a comparison is made, as the same qualities can be found in the decomposition of biological bodies. Where as in a forest, dead objects and their decomposition is essential for a healthy environment, ruins especially within cities are seen as waste and left out potentials. What if we recognise ruins and their inherent ambiguity as a potential to tackle the problems of a generation yet to come?
