Participation in Co-Design Workshop for an Agricultural Park in Hamburg-Öjendorf
A multifunctional agricultural park is to be created in the Horner Geest landscape axis: covering an area of around 12 hectares, just a few kilometres from Hamburg city centre, agriculture, local recreation and nature conservation will be reimagined.
In the first workshop on 18 September 2025 at HafenCity University Hamburg, experts from agriculture, horticulture, urban planning, administration, real estate development and civil society, among them Architecture of Territory researcher Jan Westerheide worked on developing visions for the year 2040. Based on three different scenarios, the participants in six small groups drafted their visions using a spatial model and an organisational chart. The result is a set of initial ideas for an urban agricultural park. Throughout the workshop it became clear that the park should serve many purposes–making agriculture accessible to the urban population, combining leisure and production, balancing social, ecological and economic demands, and enriching the city through nature-oriented design.
In an introductory lecture, Fabian Beyeler and Bernhard Koch from Grün Stadt Zürich provided insights into how the City of Zurich approached the development and implementation of the Landschaftlicher Park Auwis.
