Urbane Agrarökologie in Der Stadt ZürichJan Westerheide, Nida Karisik, Christina Strantzali, Michaela Prunotto, Sneha Sinha Roy

As part of the Open House Night by Open House Zürich 2025, Jan Westerheide presented how alternative models of food cultivation can help to transform urban edges in and around Zurich into multi-functional public spaces and create an agroecological landscape that caters to the social and ecological needs of the local population, while maintaining their agricultural identity. The presentation is based on the chair’s research projects and studio teaching, particularly on the results of the collaborative research and design study that Architecture of Territory has conducted with Grün Stadt Zürich in 2024–2025.

The participants of this years Master of Advanced Studies (MAS-UTD) Nida Karisik, Christina Strantzali, Michaela Prunotto, and Sneha Sinha Roy presented the results of their common project of the design studio "Urban Agroecology in the City of Zürich: Focus Uetliberg“. They showed how a continuous agroecological landscape at the foot of the Uetliberg could achieve more than food production, but promote biodiversity, support pollinators, provide space for recreation, and contribute to climate protection.
