Jan Westerheide

is an architect, senior researcher, coordinator of the Master of Advanced Studies for Urban and Territorial Design (MAS UTD), and teaching assistant at the chair of Architecture of Territory at ETH Zurich. Jan studied architecture at ETH Zurich and at CEPT University in Ahmedabad. During his studies he was part of the chair of Kees Christiaanse at ETH and worked for the editor’s office of ARCH+ in Berlin, where he was able to research on topics of the property issue, universalism, and helped preparing the exhibition “Atlas of Commoning.” Since joining the chair of Architecture of Territory in 2019, he has taught and coordinated research and design studios and held lectures on topics of agricultural territories, energy landscapes, and data landscapes. His work contributed to multiple exhibitions, such as a the project Power to the People, presented in the exhibition The Great Repair at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin and at Pavillon de l’Arsenal, Paris from 2023 to 2024. He coordinated and lead the research and design study Urban Agroecology in the City of Zürich, a collaboration between Architecture and Territory and the Grün Stadt Zurich department at the City of Zurich from 2024 to 2025. His research was published in several magazines such as ARCH+, Ardeth, and Archithese.
